Bruno Genesio reckons if his team manages a draw playing away at St. Etienne in the upcoming derby, it will not be a poor performance.

According to Genesio, St. Etienne is a very difficult team to contend with when they are playing in their home conditions and thus, a draw will be a decent outcome from Lyon’s perspective.

However, Genesio emphasized that a loss would be disastrous as it would destroy the momentum that Lyon has achieved of late.

The French national team manager Didier Deschamps set for an extended stay in his role as the national team manager after it was revealed that the French Football Federation (FFF) are close to offering him a new contract that would take him until 2016. France recently qualified for the World Cup 2014 in extraordinary fashion after coming very close to being knocked out. They were involved in a play-off round against Ukraine, but they were defeated 1-0 in the first leg. Despite this disadvantage, France managed to make it into the finals after the spectacular 3-0 win in the second leg.

This helped them qualify 3-2 on aggregate, which meant that Deschamps’ stock has risen massively in the last few hours. He was brought in as the replacement for Laurent Blanc, whose team did not do well at the European championships. There was a danger of Deschamps leaving his role as the national team manager had France failed to make it into the finals. Now that they have done so, Deschamps will remain in charge until the Euro 2016. I have respect for him for what he did at OM in an environment which was not easy, because it is a big club. Returning to Didier, it was he who wished to leave. He was there for three years. The former Bordeaux manager whose contract was coming to an end after the Euro 2012 decided not to extend his contract with the national team, but instead choosing to go for a club team. He was linked with the vacant Tottenham managerial positions, which has now been filled by former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. Didier Deschamps has said that he knows the importance of the work that needs to be done in order to make France competitive once again.

Despite having a very talented squad, the French were not able to get past the quarter-final stage of the Euro 2012, although it was still a much better finish to the campaign than in the previous two major tournaments. A lot of indiscipline and infighting within the squad has been the reasons for France not performing well at the international level. Didier Deschamps has said that his main priority will be to clean up the disciplinary problems within the squad. France will be hosting the Euro 2020.

“I’m something of a perfectionist. I’m not here to threaten people or what have you, I am trusting, but today the situation in French football is such that the players can no longer make mistakes. Given the history that dates back to 2010, professional football players who wear the team jersey of France have very important duties. Today, players cannot afford the slightest deviation.
