FRANCE HANDS MARCUS THURAM HIS FIRST NATIONAL CALL-UP

 

France has handed Borussia Monchengladbach youngster Marcus Thuram (the son of World Cup winner Lilian) his first call-up to the senior national France squad as Didier Deschamps also includes Kylian Mbappe despite the star having an injury that could take him out for some weeks.


Didier Deschamps, the French coach, who won the 1998 World Cup with Marcus’ father, has seen the player rise through to the ranks with the France national team and has now given him his first senior call-up. Thuram, aged 23, has been impressive for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, playing in both the Champions League and Bundesliga.

Nabil Fekir refuses to rule out summer exit

Lyon captain Nabil Fekir has refused to rule out a summer exit amid the ongoing speculation regarding his future. The France international was heavily tipped to join Liverpool before the World Cup but the deal was scuppered at the final hurdle after the Reds had concerns regarding his injury record.

Since then, Chelsea have joined the race for his signature and Fekir has now admitted that he could part ways with Lyon during the summer, he said: “As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very happy here, but the transfer window is still long and everything goes very quickly in football. We don’t know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon. I feel brilliant in this squad. We have very good players, a great atmosphere.”

Deschamps proud of his team

French manager Didier Deschamps said that he is proud of his team after they have reached the final of the 2018 World Cup. He said that it was a tough game against Belgium and that the players needed to be at their best in order to win the game.

Didier Deschamps said that reaching the final is an important achievement for the French side as they are a young team with some inexperienced players. He said that they knew beforehand that it will be hard to play against Belgium and the players had to fight a lot to win the ball.

Olivier Giroud admits France coach influenced Arsenal exit

Olivier Giroud has revealed that France coach Didier Deschamps urged him to leave Arsenal during the recently concluded transfer window. The 31-year-old joined Premier League champions Chelsea last month after the Gunners accepted an £18m sum for his services.

In an exclusive from Telefoot, Giroud admitted that he took the opinion of Deschamps prior to his proposed exit from the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile, the Frenchman also admitted that he had received interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and AS Roma, but his choice was clear to join Chelsea after talks with Antonio Conte, he said: “A week before the end of the transfer window, I needed to hear his (Deschamps’) opinion.
